Should schools ban references to "mother" and "father"?
Closed

Schools in France will no longer use the words "mother" and "father" on their forms and documents, after the French parliament voted to eradicate these references in favour of "parent 1" and "parent 2".

This amendment was passed in an effort to prevent discrimination, although it has created backlash from conservatives and groups against gay marriage.

What are your thoughts?

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking P1" "I am P2". "It's filling in a form time", "Yay". Sorry couldn't get that image out of my head when someone mentioned it. I suppose it simplifies the form/document filling in process for some people but is it really necessary........I don't think so.

I would have to say yes, because not all families have a father and or mother, and not always through their own fault, they may have lost their partner to an accident and or through health reasons. I do not think schools should have mother clubs, as not everyone is a mother, and a father should not have to feel embarrassed is he wanted to join either.

I think it causes discrimination as to who is No 1 in the relationship. And no matter how hard every one tries - two women, or two men will never have children on their own. So there must also be a No 3 in those circumstances.

Is it really necessary? If so just do what they've done with parent by adding guardian ie parent/guardian therefore making the new forms say mother/Parent 1 father/parent 2 that way it is all inclusive....
