what age should a child have a phone ?
Closed

I've been discussing this with some parents and they have children who have a phone at age 8, that seems so young to me . My boys have a phone but we only gave it to them when they first started high school. What age seems reasonable to you ?

I feel it depends on the child’s maturation, responsibleness and overall personality. I have two children, a daughter aged 11 who has had a phone for the last year, she is very responsible, follows rules and restrictions and has established a trusting relationship with us. My son is 8, however has a mind much younger than that. He is often losing things, breaking things and generally not looking after them. He doesn’t always make the right choices and likes to push boundaries. I don’t think he will be ready for a phone until high school.

Yes, I think that's too young & at high school is soon enough.

Not before they are in high school, but my grand kids have a tracking devise they wear on their wrist,
Their father when he was little we would find him on a chair, talking to someone on the wall phone, we Thought by having it up he won't touch it, we found him one day talking to someone, when his father took the phone from him he had dialled or rather pushed his grandmothers' no, cause as he said Nanna was lonely, cause Pop was away at work, No Phones for kids, you never know who they call
